Risks and accidents in transportation: (initial) perspective of the geography of transport
Resumo
In recent years, the exponential increase in the mobility of people
and goods has intensified the flows and traffic density in the various
modes of transport (air, road, rail, sea/river and pipeline). This increase
has made it essential to analyse the risks that result from constraints
caused by the infrastructure conditions, by the transport modes/
equipment used and by the framework of the context of the human
resources who use them. Despite the scanty coverage of this theme
by the literature, particularly in terms of geography, it is crucial to
analyse the (im)balance between these elements because this can lead
to accidents (full manifestations of risk). The geographical/territorial
dimension is key to understanding the actors involved in these disaster
scenarios (and their mitigation), and potentially to preventing them.
manifestações do risco). A dimensão geográfica/territorial é central
