Politics and culture: the french “model” and european integration
Resumo
France is often presented as having succeeded in reconverting a
monarchical cultural system (centralized and correlated to state power) into a “republican-universal” model. It is a matter of seeing the realities
and consequences of this history of public cultural policies, placing it
in the perspective of European integration. “The cultural exception” has
been invoked with some success by Paris to (or even against) Brussels
to defend cinematographic production as the single price of the book.
This notion could become an expression accepted by the states and the
bodies of the European Union in the context of the transatlantic negotiations
in progress (or pending).
