In this article, we would like to point out aspects of the themes of violence and evil, such as presented throughout the four books of Virgil’s Georgics. In contrast to what we could generally think, the author has questioned the idealization of peasant’s life and of some traditional Roman values (fortitudo, labor, militia...), making us see, in this poem, points of tension between good and bad evaluations of the rustic realities described.
Neste artigo, gostaríamos de destacar aspectos dos temas da violência e do mal, tal como apresentados ao longo dos quatro livros das Geórgicas de Virgílio. Diferentemente do que se poderia em geral pensar, o autor questionou a idealização da vida dos camponeses e alguns valores tradicionais de Roma (fortitudo, labor, militia...), fazendo‑nos ver no poema pontos de tensão entre os bons e os maus julgamentos das realidades rústicas descritas.
