Arising from systematic archaeological surveys on wide area surrounding the Roman city
of Ammaia and studies developed here was to understand how the space was anthropized after
the end of empire. It is demonstrated in this communication emerged as dozens of small towns,
more or less organized in the vicinity of the old city during the called High Middle Ages, while
the central urban space was empty. It is evident so the process of spraying Ammaia Roman city,
situated near Marvão and the emergence of multiple small towns, some of them developed and
survived to the present.
