The analysis of the uses of villa, insula, suburbanum, hortus in the Vitae duodecim Caesarum
written by Caius Suetonius Tranquillus reveals that, sometimes, the biographer describes these
places of leisure in a negative sense. This is most evident in the Vitae Caesarum for whom
Suetonius feels less affection.
