Reading Thucydides in the early Modern Age (15th and 16th centuries): the Renaissance reader and the contiones
Resumo
The aim of the present work is to study the relationship between the reader
and the historiographical speeches (the so-called contiones) in the early Modern Age.
To do this we will analyse, first, some editorial practices followed in the publication
of the speeches of ancient historiography during the 15th and 16th centuries. Second,
we will analyze how this process is a key factor for the knowledge and dissemination
of one of the most admired authors during this period: Thucydides.
El objetivo del presente trabajo es estudiar la relación entre el lector y los discursos historiográficos (las denominadas contiones) en la alta Edad Moderna. Para ello vamos a analizar, en primer lugar, algunas de las prácticas editoriales seguidas en la publicación de las alocuciones de la historiografía antigua a lo largo de los siglos XV y XVI. En segundo lugar, vamos a analizar cómo este proceso es un factor clave para el conocimiento y la difusión de uno de los autores más admirados durante este período: Tucídides.
