Frontiers Between Earth and the Moon: Ariosto and Galileo
Resumo
The Italian Renaissance established a new kind of dialogue between literary culture and scientific culture. In Astolfo’s journey to the Moon, presented in Cantos 34 and 35 of Ludovico Ariosto’s poem Orlando Furioso, information and points of view are included which will be a subject of Galileo’s scientific discourse. This anticipation can only be understood in the evolutional context of the currents of thought which are essential to the emergence of the “Copernican revolution”.
